Pasture Management
Maintaining and managing pasture land requires a variety of processes, and timing for applications of herbicides and fertilizers. Seeding, cultivation, harvesting and maintenance schedules all play a role in delivering exceptional results.
Farming
They call Ocala the horse capital of the world because of its rich soils that feed these grasses the vital nutrients needed to produce some of the finest grasses in the county. Whether its seeding, sprigging, hay bailing, fertilizing or herbicide applications, Our experienced team brings the skill set and passion to every project, no matter the size.
Harvesting
Cone Farms has been harvesting grass, sod and seed throughout Marion County. Assisting farmers, ranchers and the equestrian communities with the vital service for maintaining their properties since 2009.
Who we are
Cone Farms is a family owned business deeply rooted in the agriculture industry here in Ocala Florida. Owned and operated by Sam Cone, Cone Farms represents a third generation of farmer family tradition that began in the early 50s. His father and grandfather raised cattle, logged trees, grew peanut and harvested grass and seed. Sam has proudly continued the family legacy and has expanded his services to the commercial sod industry. Along the road or in the pasture Sam Cone believes that Harvesting Quality and Cultivating trust with his clients is the key to success.
Rolled Sod Harvesting
Rolling sod requires skilled operators who can handle various types of heavy farm equipment. The quality of the sod can vary depending on its location and the environmental elements at the time of harvest.
Seed Harvesting
Seed harvesting takes place between June & September depending on the type being harvested. Cone farms has both the experienced team and equipment for gathering the seeds for the next season crop.
Hay Harvest
Hay Harvest is a three step process consisting of mowing fluffing and bailing. The process begins June 1st and runs through November depending on factors like weather and growth patterns. Fertilizations applications usually coincide with cutting. For optimum nutritional value fertilizers are typically applied 28 days prior cutting.
Rolled Sod Installations
The success and over all quality for these installations is based on certain key factors. The first being the quality of the prep work being done by the contractor. The second of course is the quality of the sod being installed. Thirdly, the transportation and safe offloading of the sod and finally the seamless installation of the rolls being installed.
Transportation
Our experienced team brings the skill and passion to every project, no matter the size. Cone farms uses in house transportation for the majority of its installations.
Safety
Rolled sod installations requires skilled operators who can handle various types of heavy equipment needed to manage the rolled sod. One of the most important safety aspects of the installation is the proper (MOT) Management of Traffic. The (MOT)is provided by the principal contractor of the project.
Retention & Erosion Control
Cone Farms has been sodding water retention and drainage ponds for both commercial and residential site developments. Through out central Florida. The biggest challenge when working in these areas is the weather. Heavy rains can make it difficult to install sod on these sloped areas which can make project coordination challenging. We understand these challenges and communicate regularly with the project managers to make installations happen in a timely manner.
